Intumescent Cavity / Cladding Barrier

Intumescent Cavity Barrier Intumescent Cavity Barrier

There are two main types available, to suit different needs. Each has a non-ventilated and a ventilated version. The non-ventilated WB and ventilated VWB products are made from intumescent material with galvanised wire mesh support, wrapped in aluminium foil, appoximately 5mm deep, offering durability, flexibility, and surface-water-repellant properties. The non-ventilated WBS and ventilated VWBS products are made from intumescent material and fire-resistant 50mm thick sponge for ease and speed of fitting, combined with excellent durability. The two fitting edges are sealed with flexible vinyl strip to prevent any moisture from travelling across the sponge. Various ventilation patterns are available to ensure that moisture can escape easily. In the event of fire, these ventilation holes are sealed quickly and efficiently by intumescent material, to form a robust fire barrier. Use the ventilated barriers horizontally and the non-ventilated barriers vertically around door and window frames. All types available in various depths and lengths, to suit a wide range of wall cavities.

In response to numerous requests for a cavity wall fire barrier that will allow moisture to drain out and air to flow for ventilation, but prevent the passage of smoke, there is a new product development (VWB/G) which comprises an inner layer of intumescent paper with a wire mesh support and a water-repellant outer covering of metal foil, with fitted flexible tubes for ventilation and automatic moisture draining. These flexible tubes fit into the joints between bricks and protrude into the air on the outside of the wall.

Use on both the vertical and horizontal faces around window frames and door frames. Ventilated and non-ventilated versions have the same fire protection properties. Ideal for use behind UPVC windows and timber-framed houses as vertical or horizontal fire barrier.
