Aithon PV33 Intumescent Coating for Timber – 7.5kg and 20kg

Aithon PV33 is a clear, water-based intumescent paint for wood. It cannot be applied to woods which have been treated with a varnish or any substance which reduces the porosity of natural wood.

It has been tested to European Standards 13501-1 and EN 13501-2 Reaction to Fire. The system can achieve a Euroclass B-s1 d0 rating on timber and wood derivatives with a minimum thickness of 10mm and a density equal to or greater than 390kg/m³. Building regulations also accept this testing for British Class 0.

Furthermore, it can achieve up to 60 minutes protection on timber structures.

Spreading rate of Aithon PV33 = 25m² per 7.5kg and 67m² per 20kg for Euroclass B

It requires the AITHON F3 Finish coat on all projects to ensure that the intumescent does not turn milky over time.

Application & storage conditions:

Temperatures should be between 5°C – 30 °C when the product is applied

Temperatures should remain above 5°c during drying

Ambient humidity should not exceed 70%

Storage temperature: 5°C – 30°C

Storage & Application Conditions:

Storage temperature must be between 5°C and 30°C.

Please ensure that the product is applied and dried in conditions that are warmer than 5°C and that ambient humidity is lower than 70%.

The moisture content of the timber should be checked and must be below 12% before application.

The F3 Finish coat can be applied one day after applying the PV33 basecoat.

PV33 and the F3 Finish can be applied by brush, roller or a spray gun.

Aithon PV33 is supplied as a gel product. It can be spray applied as it is or thinned with 5% water. Brush or roller application requires a 10% to 20% thinning with water.

Aithon F3 may be used as it is or thinned with white spirit. Usually 10% thinning is sufficient.

  • Why do I need the F3 Finish Coat?
    Aithon PV33 intumescent turns milky when exposed to water. Over time, the moisture in the air would therefore interact with it. The F3 finish topcoat prevents this from happening in internal environments.
